Slack and channels

Mention the Meridian app in Slack or DM it; routines deliver to you or to a team channel.

Once Slack is connected, you can work with Meridian without leaving it. Mention the app in a channel or send it a direct message, and the answer comes back in the thread. Routines deliver their results to your Slack DM when you have one linked, or to a team channel you choose.

Steps

  1. Connect Slack. Open Settings → Connections and choose Connect on Slack under Messaging. An admin installs the app once for the whole Slack workspace. Each member is matched to their Slack user by email.
  2. Ask in a thread. In any channel the app is in, mention it and ask. In a direct message you do not need the mention. The conversation continues in that Slack thread and also appears as a chat in Meridian, so you can open it there to see the full work and any pane.
  3. Switch agents. A thread answers as Meridian by default. Use the agent selector the app offers on a thread to hand it to another agent, such as the Data Analyst, for the rest of that thread.
  4. Choose a team channel. Tell the agent "post general updates to #ops". It sets that channel as the workspace's team channel. Routines that address the team deliver there; the channel must be one the app is a member of.
  5. Let jobs deliver. A job that runs for you, such as a morning brief or a meeting recap, reaches your linked Slack DM, or your email when no DM is linked. It writes the same message on the run in Meridian, so nothing exists only in Slack.

What waits for your approval

Posting to a channel or person other than yourself from an agent run asks you first. Replies inside the Slack thread you are talking in are the conversation itself and do not ask. Sending email from a Slack conversation asks on a card in the chat.

Limits

  • Meridian reads a Slack channel only when asked, over a bounded window of recent messages. It does not ingest whole channels or watch every message.
  • Approval cards are decided in Meridian. From Slack you get a link to the chat where the card is waiting.
  • Charts and rich cards in Slack use Slack's own layout; files you ask for are attached, and long answers are shortened to fit Slack's limits.
  • The Slack app icon shows an initial, not the agent's picture yet.
  • Microsoft Teams and other messaging platforms are not connected yet.
