Skills and tools
A skill tells an agent how to do a kind of work; a tool is one action, guarded by the same approval rule.
A skill is a written method for one kind of work: drafting a reply, researching a company, building a report, writing a meeting recap. A tool is one action: read a thread, query a table, save a file, send an email. Agents pick up skills when the work calls for them and use tools to do the steps. You rarely need to name either; ask for the outcome and the agent finds what fits.

Steps
- See what an agent has. On the agent's Settings tab, Skills lists the attached skills as rows. Find skills automatically means it may also use any skill it can discover that fits the work. Connected apps lists connectors the same way, with Use connected apps automatically beside it.
- Attach one deliberately. Add skill opens a search. Attaching a skill makes it part of that agent for everyone who uses the agent. Remove a row to detach it. Turning discovery off keeps the agent to its attached list.
- Make your own skill. Ask any agent: "Make a skill for our proposal format from these three documents". It writes the method, and you choose where it lives: for this agent, just you, a Space, or the workspace. A skill made for a Space works only in that Space's work.
- Adjust a shipped skill. Skills Meridian ships, such as the Meeting Recap, keep a customisation note beside them. Ask the agent to change the recap's sections or language for the workspace, and it edits that note rather than the shipped method.
- Check tools from the card. Every tool call appears as a row in the chat. The ones that send, write, share, or delete stop at an approval card. Everything else runs.
What waits for your approval
Tools follow one rule everywhere: a tool that reads runs; a tool that changes something outside the chat asks. Publishing a skill to the whole workspace needs an admin. Attaching a connector account to an agent for its own use opens a chat whose card decides.
Limits
- A skill never grants access. An agent with a HubSpot skill still needs a connected HubSpot account it may use.
- Skills are text. A skill cannot add a tool the agent does not have.
- Discovery finds skills you may use. A colleague's private skill is not found for you.
- Per-tool switches inside a skill are not offered. Attach or remove the whole skill.
- The catalogue of connector tools under Settings → Connections → Agent tools grows over time; a connector not listed there is not available yet.
